About Me

Hello, it's me, Cici, who write this blog. This is just a post about me. Skip it if you want hehe

  • Why did I become a vegan?
This seems to be THE question for most vegans, so let get it over with. The short answer is I love animals, therefore I don't want to harm them directly or indirectly. The long answer to this question is: I love animals and always have. One day I decided to watch the documentary Earthlings because I knew it was time to stop being a hypocrite and learn the truth, so yes, in a sense, the moment I made the decision to watch the documentary, I knew a big lifestyle change would happen. This was back in 2012 when I was a fresher at uni in England. Two big changes occurred that year, I stopped (a) drinking and (b) consuming meat. Why I don't say stop consuming any animal products is because I became a vegetarian after watching Earthlings for 2-3 months before going fully vegan on June 21st 2012.

I became vegan for the animals. Any health benefits are bonus. I love to eat. I used to be bulimic and starved myself awhole lot when I was a teenager. It's not to the point of anorexia, but yeah, dark time... It takes time for me to learn to love myself. One just gotta realise that food is true love 🙌 Now, I really don't give a fuck what others think about me - not only about looks, but also how I am as a person. I can't and don't intend to please everybody. I save that for people who are special and matter to me. Love yo self! Treat yo self! 😎

Sure, I'm an ethical vegan, but if you're vegan for any other reasons: health and/or environment, just as great 💞  It's often said that three most important documentary films to watch if you'd like to understand the reasons why many decide on such a big lifestyle change are:

Earthlings for animals
Forks Over Knives for health
Cowspiracy for the environment

Watch them. Stay informed. Be compassionate. 😸

  • Blogging
At first when I started this blog, I didn't think it'd be something serious, but rather just for fun, somewhere for me to jot down my random thoughts and document a bit of my vegan life, particularly then it was when I first started being a vegan. Now, my blog is still about all things vegan, especially restaurant reviews and travel adventures, but also my occasional rants on random things 😋

Rika (Vegan Miam) asked me to do a guest post about a few vegan eats in Hanoi two years ago (read here). I owe many thanks to Rika because getting featured on her amazing blog has drawn the readers' attention to this little blog of mine 💜

Being a vegan can sometimes feel a bit lonely, but this blog and Instagram have helped me to connect and/or meet with vegans around the world, so it's pretty wicked.

Last but not least, it's important to point out that I have a no-bullshit policy, so if a restaurant serves bad food or whatever, I will deliver honest reviews. No sugar coating on here. I use writing to unleash thoughts, so this bitch isn't holding back.

  • More about meself
Born and raised in Hanoi, Vietnam. Then off to England to study for about five years. I've been back to Vietnam since 2014. I'm getting bored of being here now...

No drinking for me. I stopped awhile before becoming vegan. Why? I don't like it. This doesn't mean I hate anybody who does drink though by the way haha although if you start acting like an ass, then yes.

Let's see.. what else?... I'm a weird introvert. I like making inappropriate jokes, which can sometimes make people uncomfortable and/or offended. Oh well, too bad. Out of my hands.

I'm quite a film/TV series enthusiast. I watch a lot of stuff - good stuff that is: Seinfeld (I make a lot of references in real life and on this blog, but I don't think many people get them haha), The Wire, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, That 70's Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Breaking Bad, Quentin Tarantino's films, Wes Anderson's films ... I can go on and on. You get the idea 😎

I love travelling of course ❤ How could anybody not love travelling? I try to travel when I can. So far I've been to: England, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Netherlands, South AfricaThailandSingapore, China, MalaysiaTaiwan, Hong Kong and Macau 🌏🌍

Oh, and being a vegan makes travelling heaps of fun! 😸 Every time I travel to a new place means another vegan food adventure.

Alrighty, that's it, a bit about me ^.^

  1. Hey, I love your blog. The inappropriate comments are funny, plus you enjoy Seinfeld and the Wire. I will be there in 2 months and I will enjoy Saigon again. I will begin reading your posts tomorrow and continue to comment.

    1. Thank you for reading my blog! Sorry for such late reply. Maybe when you're in Saigon, we could meet over food :)
